Give Back and a Giveaway!

It is better to give than to receive.  Now that the holiday season is in full swing, it’s the perfect time to really give thanks for the blessings in our lives and to help those that are in need.  It doesn’t matter how you choose to give back (monetary donations, food bank donations, volunteering, visiting a hospital or nursing home, helping a local family in need), but try to do something to brighten somebody else’s day this holiday season.  🙂

Below are two organizations near and dear to my heart and I donate whenever I am able.

Baltimore Humane Society  The Baltimore Humane Society is a no-kill shelter that provides a temporary home, a safe refuge, and care for unwanted and homeless animals.  They also work aggressively to place each animal that comes to the shelter in a loving, permanent home.  The shelter does not receive any operational funding, so they rely entirely on donations!

Local peeps, check this out!  Fill a Subaru with Love!   Stop by the Subaru of Hunt Valley and donate some items to help keep this no-kill shelter up and running.  Stop in on December 14th and you can meet some of the adoptable pets. 🙂

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

St. Jude Children’s Hospital has always been important to me, but now that I have a daughter of my own, it has really hit home.  Tearing up as I write this…  If you sign up as a “Partner in Hope”, by making monthly donations, they will send you this ornament as a thank you and a reminder of all the children you will be helping.

In the spirit of giving, I have a GIVEAWAY for you all!  Here’s your chance to win a $15 gift card to Starbucks!

To Enter:  Leave a comment on this post of how you plan to give back this holiday season.  I will randomly pick a winner on Monday morning.  Good luck!

  1. Um, this is probably one of the best giveaways ever! My husband and I coordinate a local Adopt A Family program with our alumni association and each year adopt a few local families, meaning we purchase gifts for them for the holidays, as well as buy them their holiday dinner. It’s just one of the ways we like to give back this time of year.

  2. I always help out at the food bank.

  3. Natalie P. says:

I plan to buy canned goods every single time I go to the grocery store and donate them to a local food shelter!

  4. I LOVE to give back… Ben and I went to Hospice on Thanksgiving morning to drop off little holiday treats for the workers and the individuals who are currently living there. We also plan on going to give blood in the next few weeks- we haven’t been able to go for the past year because we went to Costa Rica for our honeymoon but we have recently been CLEARED to give again! 🙂

  5. My running group and I have adopted a local family for Christmas and have bought them presents.

  6. A charity that is near and dear to my heart is Guiding Eyes for the blind. They raise labradors to be used as guide dogs for the blind. Right now I only donate monetarily but some day I may be a puppy raiser. I just think it would be too hard to raise a dog for 18 months and then give it up ( yes, I may have attachment issues). During the holidays we go to the senior center to help wrap gifts for the elderly. That is fun and it actually feels rewarding!
ST.Judes is also a good charity. Those commercials get me every time!

  7. Starbucks? Yes Please!! My family always picks a few kids off of the sub for santa tree! I love it!
