1. One of my BFFs (she was my college roommate, Go Tigers!) had her first baby last weekend and I am meeting him this afternoon!

2. We are having dinner (pizza night!) at another one of my BFFs (friends since 6th grade) house tonight. I haven’t seen her and her beautiful family for way too long, so it will be nice to catch up.

What do you normally get from Starbucks?

Trail running and a 50k.

Last Saturday morning, Jeanette and I headed out for a long trail run (on real trails with trees, roots, rocks, streams, etc.) Why are we trail running when we usually stick to roads and flat and easy trails? Well, since we just trained for a marathon and we are in decent shape (we think), we decided to go big and sign up for a 50k trail race! Therefore, one should actually run some trails prior to running over 30 miles on them and we will be trail running for the next few weeks.

Rosaryville 50k on July 20, 2014. This is my 32nd birthday and I can’t think of anything better than running 32 miles with a great friend. ๐Ÿ™‚

It was really fun and a big change from road running. With about 2 miles to go, I tripped and landed hard. Thankfully I caught myself with my knees and my left shoulder and I only landed on dirt (no rocks, thankfully). At least I got the whole tripping and falling thing out of the way. ๐Ÿ™‚

One of many great things about running with Jeanette is that her husband makes us breakfast. Blueberry pancakes and eggs straight from the backyard.

I also went home with a jar of homemade strawberry jam and homemade applesauce. Yum!

We attended an absolutely beautiful wedding on Saturday evening and watched two of Chris’ long time friends tie the knot. ๐Ÿ™‚ Fun fact: Chris went to prom with the bride and he wore the same shoes to that prom and her wedding.

The ceremony and reception were held at Richardson Farms. It was a gorgeous setting.

Tell me something fun about your day!

The kind of person I want to be.

I try to be a good person. I try to be kind, honest, and caring. I try to be nice and cordial with everyone, even if we aren’t the best of friends. I have many great examples (family and friends) of how to treat others and my parents raised me to be a good person.

I also have a few examples of how I DO NOT want to be. Some people are negative and miserable and they go after others to try and spread the misery. Thanks to those people, thank you for showing me how not to treat others. Thank you for helping me to appreciate the other awesome people in my life who lift me up instead of break me down.

I hope you all do something nice for someone today. In the words of a good friend of mine, be a buddy not a bully.

Baltimore 10 Miler 2014: Race Recap

This past Saturday, I ran the Baltimore 10 Miler. I went into the race with no expectations, but I of course wanted to do well and give it my all. I drastically cut my mileage to recover and let my knee heal, so I wasn’t quite sure how running 10 challenging miles would go.

The race was scheduled to start at 7:30 am, but it ended up starting about 15 minutes late. The reason they gave was “due to the traffic in the surrounding area”…people were running late I suppose.

We lined up with the 1:20 pace group and started off at an easy pace. We settled into a nice, sub-8 minute pace for the first few miles. Right before we reached the half way point (slightly under 39 minutes), we passed the 1:20 pace group.

Our goal was to try and keep pace for the second half, but the second half is HILLY. It was definitely challenging and I thought I was going to have to walk during a hill at mile 8. The last two miles were brutal for me and I gave everything I had to keep up with Jeanette. I finished right next to Jeanette in 1:18:14.

I am very happy with my time. My knee felt great the whole time (3 Advil did the trick :-)) and I beat my time from last year (1:22 ish).

The after party is always a great time. Running, free beer, and good friends. Such a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Race weekend, a great snack, and bath time.

I’m running the Baltimore 10 Miler this Saturday and to be honest, I’m a little nervous.ย  I haven’t done a lot of running since my marathon back in May and my knee is still being bothersome.ย  The course is a bit challenging (read hilly!) and the weather has turned hot and humid…I have not adapted to the humidity yet this year.ย  However, the race was a blast last year and I’m running with a bunch of friends and I am just going to hope for the best.ย  ๐Ÿ™‚

I decided it would be a great idea to take a new class during my lunch break today.ย  What class did I take?ย  Kick It.ย  This class was a high intensity kick-boxing class and I left nice and sweaty.ย  I have a feeling I’m going to wake up pretty sore tomorrow…

Once I got back to my desk, I couldn’t wait to eat my lunch.ย  I had leftover grilled chickenย (cooked on a charcoal grill=so good)ย and pasta salad (from a box=so good).ย  I also chopped up the Mini Babybel cheese and mixed it in.

A few hours later, I was starving and reached for this Kashi bar.ย  For someone with a ginormous sweet tooth, this really hits the spot.ย  Best of all, it’s healthy and tastes great!

After a long day at work and a long commute home, I didn’t have much energy to cook dinner.ย  The solution…Eat Fresh!ย  Yup, Subway for the win.ย  Just in case you were wondering, I had turkey and ham on wheat with spinach, tomatoes, and onions.

Annabelle didn’t really seem like she neededย a bath tonight, but when her normal bath time rolled around she kept pointing to the stairs and crying.ย  I finally understood what she wanted and she started giggling as soon as we reached the stairs.ย  I think the real reason she likes to take a bath is so that she can run around nude afterwards.ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰

She definitely keeps us on our toes, but I love her to the moon and back.

When life gives you lemons…

…Eat lots of ice cream. So, I had a hot fudge sundae 2 out of the last 3 nights. I’ll try harder tomorrow… I did enjoy my “healthy” angel food cake dessert last night.

I haven’t been running too much lately (my silly left knee is still being a jerk), but I did get in 7 decent miles on Sunday.

I have been keeping up with strength training and cross-training cardio in the mean time. Here is an awkwardly horrible post 30 minute elliptical plus 20 minute stair master workout selfie.
