I ran…and I ran…and I ran.

On the running front, I had a pretty great summer, fall, and winter. ย ๐Ÿ™‚

August 2015

In August, I had the wonderful opportunity to run Ragnar Colorado. ย I had never been to Colorado and running 200 miles from Copper to Aspen with 11 amazing people = the best thing ever.

October 2015

Jeanette and I checked the Chicago Marathon off of the bucket list in October. ย We went with one goal…have fun and enjoy the race! ย We did just that and it was absolutely amazing.

September 2015

I ran the Via Marathon this past September and it was one of the worst races of my life. ย I wasย trying for a BQ (sub 3:35) and I ended up with a 4 hour plus finish. ย I had a much better race back in 2014.

October 2015

A fun little 5k pushing Annabelle in the jogging stroller. ย Running with the stroller and a heavy toddler is no joke.

November 2015

This was definitely the highlight of my running in 2015. ย I’m not sure how we did it, but my friends Woody, Pryce, and I completed our first 50 MILER. ย Yes, 50 miles! ย Woody and Pryce killed it and finished in the 10 hour range and I finished in 11 hours and 52 minutes. ย To be an official finisher, you had to finish in under 12 hours. ย I’m glad I gave myself a few minutes to spare. ย ๐Ÿ˜‰

February 2016

Kate and I ran the Disney Princess Half Marathon and had a magical time. ย This was Kate’s first half marathon and she did so great…and she loved it so much that she signed up for another one.

March 2016

I ran the HAT 50k and it was as fun and challenging as last year. ย This was my friend Wendy’s first 50k and she did such an amazing job.

ย ย

So, what’s next you ask? ย

Coastal Delaware Marathon on April 24th!

A bad run is usually followed by a good run.ย

So, I’m in the middle of marathon training and I have had some BAD runs. What makes a run bad to me?  A.  Not hitting goal times  B.  Feeling horrible throughout the run  C.  Feeling down or in a running funk. Well, I’ve had a few too many of these runs lately.

Last week’s track workout included 2 x 1200m and 4 x 800m. I was getting over a cold and just could not get anywhere near the goal times. I even shortened 2 of the 800s to 400s. Bad run!

This past Tuesday, I set out for a tempo run and couldn’t manage one mile at tempo pace. It was hot and humid and I was tired. Bad run!

But alas, this 20 miler came along and many of the miles were at goal pace (under 9:00 minute miles) and I had some gas left in the tank at the end!  Good run!!!!

Maybe my new shirt from Janae at http://www.hungryrunnergirl.com helped me get through this one. She is so speedy and an awesome person. โ˜บ๏ธ

Happy Saturday and I hope you have a good run this weekend!

Last really good run?  This 20 miler!

Favorite treat after a long run?  A big iced coffee and an egg sandwich (or a donut) ๐Ÿ˜‰

If it wasn’t for the camera on my phone…

…I would have no idea what I did or ate yesterday. I don’t know about you guys, but with so much going on I find it hard to remember the minor details day to day. Thank goodness for smartphones with cameras that allow me to share all of my very exciting activities with you all. ๐Ÿ™‚

Chris and I decided to take Annabelle to a bounce house on Monday. What’s a bounce house? It’s a huge room with about 8 huge bounce houses in it. AB was a little hesitant at first and she didn’t like the constant humming sound from the air keeping the houses blown up, but she started having fun in no time.

IMG_6508.JPG
On Monday evening, I hit the dreadmill treadmill for a 6 mile tempo run.

1 mile warm up – 8:35 pace
2 miles – 7:35 pace
2 miles – 7:24 pace
1 mile – 8:35 pace

While I can’t say it felt good, I am happy to have done it. I sure hope I have some speed for this marathon coming up in a week…eek!

Am I the only one who sweats like crazy and likes to remove all sweaty clothing before leaving the gym?

IMG_6513.JPG
Don’t worry, I wore sweats home. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wednesday was another run day. Jeanette and I went out for a lunch time run (it was FREEZING) and ended up with a nice progression run.

IMG_6515.PNG
I had to make a very important decision yesterday afternoon. Donut or granola bar???

IMG_6517.JPG
I did end up choosing the granola bar, but I took that donut home with me…and ate it at 9 pm while watching Red Band Society. ๐Ÿ™‚ I did eat a nice healthy dinner first.

IMG_6518.JPG
Speaking of dessert, I really want to have this when we go to Florida next month. Mom and Dad, please take note. ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_6516.PNG
Tonight’s dessert looks gross, but it was delicious…one container of chocolate pudding, some redi whip, and two crushed Oreos. Stir and eat.

IMG_6519.JPG
I am now trying to drink lots of water and talk myself into taking a 5:30 am yoga class tomorrow morning. Who wants to join me???

How many pictures do you have on your phone? Umm, I had 2,000 at one point.

Favorite donut?

Meal “planning” and a new favorite salad dressing.

Do you meal plan? I don’t really do much planning. I go to the grocery store and tend to buy enough food for a week and make whatever strikes my fancy each day. I usually stick with the same meals for a while and then move onto something new.

The most planning I do is packing breakfast, lunch, and snacks the night before work days. Depending on what I decide to bring, this task can take a long time…cutting fruit and veggies, making overnight oats or sandwiches, portioning out leftovers, etc. One of the many benefits of working from home a few days a week, is not having to make a days worth of meals the night before. It really does take a lot of stress off of my nightly routine.

Today’s eats!

Pancakes with bananas and blueberries (same exact breakfast as yesterday)

IMG_6076.JPG
Chicken, veggies, and Mac and cheese leftovers (with a half of a sweet potato added in)

IMG_6082.JPG
A big salad with spinach, grapes, strawberries, cucumbers, avocado, and a veggie burger. I also discovered this awesome new salad dressing…salsa ranch made with yogurt! It tastes amazing.

IMG_6083.JPG
I also discovered these beauties. Try them ASAP.

IMG_6084.JPG
Today’s workout!

Speed work…which I love and hate at the same time. Hate during and love afterwards ๐Ÿ™‚

-1 mile warmup
-10 x 400m (1/4 mile) in 1:37 with 400m recovery in between sets

6 miles total

IMG_6081.JPG

Do you meal plan?

How often do you go out to eat?

Speed work or long run? Which do you like better?

Snapshot Saturday :-)

I hope you all are having a great weekend so far! Here is how my weekend is going so far…food, running, and Annabelle. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now, I’m drinking an iced latte and watching House Hunters…at 10:30 pm.

Speed work…it hurts so good.

Day 2 of no dessert is almost over! I am currently having this as dessert and it’s pretty tasty.

20140805-212403-77043799.jpg
Dinner was another simple meal (that’s all I can handle with a 1 1/2 year old running around) of chicken and roasted veggies. I really love roasting asparagus…it just makes it tastes really good.

20140805-212600-77160648.jpg
After dinner we spent some time outside with Molly and then I spent some quality time with my foam roller and Dance Moms once AB went to bed.
———————————————
Speed work…it’s so TOUGH but it feels so great once it’s finished. Since I’m taking another shot at a BQ in September (remember that time I missed it by 7 seconds…yea…), I’m back into marathon training mode and I have a lot of work to do.

Today’s workout:

1 mile warmup at a 9:13 pace

3 miles at a 6:51 pace with a 400m rest interval in between

.5 mile cool down at a 9:13 pace

It was a quick workout and I was able to make it back to my training class with time to spare. ๐Ÿ™‚ PS my legs are feeling this workout right now and my new BFF is my foam roller.

Do you like asparagus?

What are you training for right now?

Do you own a foam roller or a stick? Do you use it everyday?

5 year Anniversary, Mother’s Day, and 7 seconds

Hey guys, I’m so sorry to have been absent for so long. Lots of family, life, traffic, work, running things going on and when I have down time, I usually fall asleep. Yup, I need a whambulance.
————————————————–
So, Saturday was our 5 year anniversary!

20140514-173030.jpg
We celebrated in a great way (or at least one of us thinks so). We headed to Wilmington, DE to pick up my packet and stay the night for the Delaware Marathon! We had dinner with my friend Jeanette and her family and then I tried to get in bed early and get a decent night’s sleep. Romantic, I know. ๐Ÿ™‚
———————————————
Sunday was Mother’s Day…I hope all the moms out there had a great day! I had a really great day…marathon, lunch with friends, dinner date and ice cream with Chris.

20140514-173504.jpg
—————————————–
So, I might have mentioned that I was training for a marathon and hoping to qualify for Boston (I’ll have a full race recap up soon). Well, I ran my heart out and finished in 3:35:07. Yup, you read that right. I missed it by 7 seconds! Even though I missed a BQ, I did place first in my age group and went home with this awesome bobble head trophy. ๐Ÿ™‚

20140514-173900.jpg
My training partner and great friend Jeanette placed 2nd in her age group and qualified for Boston!

20140514-174001.jpg
Cheers to another round of training this summer and attempt number 2 in September. Who wants to train with me?!?!?
———————————————–
Missing my mama right now. Long story, but she is in Florida and I’m in Pennsylvania and I miss her like crazy. Love u mom!

Anybody race this past weekend?

What did you do for Mother’s Day?

Best part about your day today?

Training Recap: April 28th – May 7th.

Well, training is pretty much over. We officially started training the last week in January and we spent every Saturday morning battling the cold, wind, rain, sleet, and snow during our long runs. We pushed ourselves to hit our marks for tempo and track workouts and it’s now time to see if the training will pay off. The race is on Mother’s Day and I can’t think of a better present to myself than to qualify for Boston. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tuesday Training Recap: Week of 4/21-4/27

Hi everyone! Here is how training went last week…less than 2 weeks to go now!

Monday:

7 mile tempo run on the NCR Trail. I averaged a 7:29 pace and the last 3 tempo miles were tough! A steady incline plus a head wind = slower pace while putting forth more effort.

20140429-150535.jpg
Tuesday:

PB Fingers 30 Minute Boot Camp Workout. I loved this quick workout and I did it in my basement during my lunch break. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wednesday:

Track workout! It was VERY windy and chilly…again. I keep waiting for these workouts to feel easy and they never do!

8 x 800m with 1:30 RI (rest interval). Our times ranged from 3:12-3:18 for each 800m.

Thursday:

Body Pump class

Friday:

6 easy miles on the treadmill at an 8:34 pace

Saturday:

13 miles on the NCR Trail. It was tough to keep up the speed towards the end, but I got it done with an overall pace of 8:10 per mile.

20140429-153304.jpg
Sunday:

Rest and eat lots of cupcakes day!

20140429-153426.jpg

How is your week going so far?

When is your next race?

Expired snacks, I wanted to quit, and my new strategy.

So when I woke up yesterday, I felt terrible. My stomach was all messed up (maybe it was the Starbucks and Easter candy at 9 pm), and I just felt blah. I decided a nice healthy breakfast would fix everything, so I raided my stash at work and found this bar.

20140424-083546.jpg
I’m glad I noticed the “best by date” of June 2013 before I ate it. Don’t worry, I did end up finding a non-expired Clif bar and did not go hungry. ๐Ÿ™‚
—————————————-
Wednesday has been “track day” for a while now, so of course it was chilly and very windy for our workout. This workout was a killer and I wanted to quit so many times.

8 x 800m in 3:17 with a 1:30 RI (rest interval) between sets. We ended up running each 800m in about 3:14-3:15 and I really had to channel my inner Shalane and remember that Bart Yasso (Yasso 800s) is one of my BFFs. ๐Ÿ™‚

20140424-084247.jpg
After the workout, I refueled with a very healthy lunch and some healthy fat from my guacamole dressing.

20140424-084414.jpg
—————————————
Dinner was a chicken salad sandwich (2 separate sandwiches put together) and fruit with the best company around…AB and my parents. ๐Ÿ™‚

20140424-084824.jpg
Since I’m trying to cut back on my ice cream consumption, I used one of Annabelle’s bowls AND the ice cream was “light”. Even though the bowl doesn’t look that small in the picture, it’s much smaller than my usual mixing bowl.

20140424-085034.jpg
What’s your go to breakfast right now?

Would you rather run in rain, snow, or wind?

Last dessert you ate?
