A bad run is still a run.

Happy Tuesday! I worked from home today and I headed to the local trail for a run during my lunch break. I love living just a few minutes from the NCR Trail. I haven’t been digging running lately (I guess I am feeling burnout from marathon training for so long), but I headed out today with hopes of having a good run. This run felt TOUGH and I didn’t have “fun”, but I am happy that I was finally able to get in some sub-8 miles. I feel so far from being at the fitness level I was for my last marathon… A bad (feeling) run is still a run.

I refueled with chicken nuggets, brocolli, and cauliflower. It’s just easier to eat what Annabelle eats. 🙂

After a long weekend getaway, I was more than ready for a run today.  I headed out with Serge and then Lisa met up with us (she went out early and did 4 miles before we started).  It was the perfect day for a run.

We warmed up for 2.25 miles and then picked up the pace for .75 miles.  We used mile 4 as an easy mile and picked up the pace for miles 5 and 6.  The last .38 was a cool down at a 7:55 pace.

Instead of wearing my usual Brooks Pure Flow 2s, I tried out these beauties that came in the mail last week.

These shoes are made by Altra Zero Drop and they are called The One.  Zero Drop Footwear is the world’s first fully cushioned, foot-shaped, training shoe without an elevated heel.  This platform allows for a more natural foot strike and a more efficient and comfortable ride.   The main feature of these shoes are that the forefoot and the heel are the same distance from the ground.

This unique shoe is designed to reduce:

forefoot pain, shin splints, runner’s knee, excessive pronation, and IT band pain.

Things I really liked about this shoe:

-lightweight

-comfortable

-lots of room in the toe area (I ALWAYS get blisters and these felt great.)

-supportive and minimal at the same time

Since I have a history of stress fractures and numerous other running injuries, I am nervous about having a shoe with minimal cushioning. To start, I will use these for short, easy runs to get used to them and then go from there.  But as for my first impression, I think these are really great shoes!

I got up pretty early this morning and since Chris worked until late last night, I was on my own for breakfast.  I had some fruit and a chocolate banana protein muffin.  It was tasty, but I was not full for long.

My friend Kate bought a new house this past year and Lauren and I have never been to see it in person.  Lauren, Annabelle, and I went to check it out this morning and our friend Amber and her two little ones met us there.  Kate has done a lot of work on the house so far (new floors, painting, etc.) and it is looking really good.  However, she is currently housing her brother, sister in law, and almost 1 year old nehpew for a while and the house is not looking how she envisioned it quite yet.  Therefore, I did not take any pictures.  But just so that you don’t feel left out, here we all are at my baby shower. 🙂

I said goodbye to Lauren because she flew back home tonight :(.  Annabelle will miss Aunt Lauren, look how sad she looks.

I was very hungry when I got home so I made something quick and easy for lunch…veggie burger and multigrain pita chips with “less guilt” guacamole.  I also had a grande soy chai from Starbucks that Chris got for me while I was out :).

After a lot of couch sitting and taking a short nap with AB, we finally did the 3rd day of insanity.  Today was Cardio Recovery (33 minutes long) and it was very different from the previous two days.  We did a lot of slow movements and stretching.  Even though we weren’t doing a lot of cardio, it was still pretty difficult to hold the stretches and squats while keeping proper form.

This is me performing two of the stretches…I am wearing my new top from Old Navy and I absolutely love it.  The built in bra is very supportive and I like how the length is long and flowy.

Dinner was quick and easy…chicken pot pie soup, grilled cheese, and green beans.  I rounded off the meal with a bowl of cookies and cream ice cream…not pictured :).

Lazy Wednesday

We didn’t get out of bed until around 10 this morning.  AB got up to eat around 7:45 and when she fell back asleep at 8:30, I decided that I would get back into bed too.  She was awake and ready to go around 10, so Chris and I gave her a bath and got her dressed.

She just started to entertain the idea of the pacifier.  She only uses it when she is getting hungry and it isn’t time to eat again yet.  She definitely has a very healthy appetite!

Breakfast was oatmeal with honey and cinnamon and a chobani yogurt…boring but satisfying.

After breakfast, I went out for a walk/jog around the neighborhood.  The sun was shining and the temperature was in the 40s, but the wind was still blowing pretty hard and I was running into a head wind for much of the way.  I covered about 3 miles and jogged for more time than I walked.  I can’t wait for Saturday when I go on an actual run on the trail.  I have new workout gear from Old Navy to try out and I really  hope these babies get here in time…

Brooks PureFlow 2!  I have used Brooks in the past and this particular shoe is very highly rated by The Hungry Runner Girl.  She is a rockstar runner and maybe these will make me run as fast as she does :).

Since I really need to get to the grocery store, Chris picked up Subway for lunch.  I got a turkey and ham foot long with spinach and tomatoes and I had an apple on the side.  I only ate half of the sub and will eat the other half later.  Chris broke Jared’s rules and ate his entire foot long at one sitting.  I absolutely love the clothing in Athleta and I always look through the magazine and pick out what I will buy fantasize about.
