Best part of your 4th of July weekend?

Did you dress yourself/kids/dog/husband in patriotic clothing for the 4th?

Training Recap: April 28th – May 7th.

Well, training is pretty much over. We officially started training the last week in January and we spent every Saturday morning battling the cold, wind, rain, sleet, and snow during our long runs. We pushed ourselves to hit our marks for tempo and track workouts and it’s now time to see if the training will pay off. The race is on Mother’s Day and I can’t think of a better present to myself than to qualify for Boston. 🙂

Tuesday, May 6th:

Track – 6 x 400m in 1:37 with 400m active RI

We finished each 400m in under 1:37. Knee felt ok but now my groin has a slight soreness. (Training for 4 months without an issue and now things start to hurt the week of the marathon, not fun.)

Wednesday, May 7th:

REST day. Went out to lunch. 🙂

Thursday, May 8th:

We have 3 miles scheduled for today with an 8:12 pace (this is our marathon pace). Please keep your fingers and toes crossed and hope that my body holds up a little longer!

Happy Belated Easter!

Things to do on a rainy weekend in Ocean City.

Chris and I spent two nights in Ocean City this past weekend and even though the weather wasn’t great, we had a great time! I have to once again thank my parents for their help…I don’t know what we would do without them.

I’m going to warn you now, this post is very picture happy. 🙂

Sunday

We arrived in the late afternoon and checked into our hotel, The Dunes Manor.

The sunset later that evening…I love this picture.

I googled some dinner options because a lot of restaurants and hotels are closed during the off season. We decided on the Coral Reef Cafe in the Day’s Inn on 17th Street and it turned out to be a great pick. We were a little concerned at first, but our bartender (Patrick) was super nice and the food was really good. I ordered the Coral Reef Turkey Sandwich (focaccia, turkey, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and red pepper aioli) with a side of sweet potato fries. These fries were AMAZING.

20140409-223354.jpg
After dinner, we headed back to the hotel to relax and watch TV. Yes, this is a fun night for us since sitting and watching adult TV is a luxury now. 🙂 We watched some Full House while eating m&ms and fell asleep by 11 ish.

The rest of Monday was spent watching the Oriole’s game at The Greene Turtle…

Tea time at our hotel (they have it everyday from 3-4 and it was amazing)…. Me and crumpets and chocolate chip cookies.

20140409-224158.jpg

20140409-224209.jpg
Dinner at a restaurant called Hooked… All of the food is acquired locally and everything was fresh and delicious (the lighting was low and my pics didn’t turn out without a flash).

20140409-224317.jpg
Dessert at Dumser’s… Chris ordered a chocolate milkshake and I got an Oreo super sundae. They make their own ice cream and I could eat the Oreo crush everyday of my life.

20140409-224527.jpg
Tuesday

I “slept in” until about 7:45 and then headed to the hotel “exercise room”. The room was small and only contained a bike, an elliptical, and a stair stepper, but it was nice to have and it did the job. I rode the bike for 15 minutes and then did the following exercise circuit.

– 15 jump squats with alternating knee raises
– 15 push-ups
– 15 back kicks on each leg
– 10 side tricep push-ups on each side
– 15 tricep dips
– 50 sit ups
– 10 plank push ups on each side

I completed the circuit 3 times and I was a sweaty mess at the end.

20140409-225026.jpg
After I took a quick shower, we packed and headed down to the Victorian Room for breakfast.

20140409-225118.jpg
This was our view…the ocean is behind that wall of fog. 😦

Weekend Recap!

Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a fun and relaxing weekend.  My weekend was great, but it went by way too fast as usual.

My alarm went off before the crack of dawn on Saturday morning…5:30 am!  Even though it was super early for a Saturday morning, it’s always easier to get up when I know I have a long run with a good friend coming up.  I met Jeanette at 7 am and we headed out for our scheduled 18 miler.  Since we weren’t quite back to our starting point when we hit 18, we kept going and finished with a little over 19 miles for the day.  🙂

098

What makes a great 19 mile run on a beautiful Saturday morning even better?  Chocolate chip waffles in farm shapes and fresh eggs and fruit.  Thank you Todd!

099

On Sunday, we actually slept in because Annabelle didn’t get up until 8 am!  Wow, was that needed.  Thanks AB.  Once we got moving, we went to a late breakfast and then went grocery shopping.  I always get in a grumpy mood on Sundays because I finally look around the house and see everything that should get done.  (FYI I don’t do much of anything but eat on Saturdays because you shouldn’t have to do housework on long run days right?)  I always feel better once I cross a few things off of the to-do list, so here is what I got accomplished once I got Annabelle down for a nap.

  • washed our sheets
  • a few loads of laundry
  • organized our shoe/coat closet (I’m too embarrassed to show a before pic.)

101

102

  • Food prepped for the week – I made sweet potatoes, broccoli, and chicken and split into portions to take to work for lunch.

103

104

The rest of the night was spent chasing around AB (who is walking like a champ and NEVER stops moving!) and eating pizza and ice cream.  I tried a new flavor and since the base flavor was strawberry, it counts as a serving of fruit.  🙂

105

107

Favorite pizza flavor?

Best part of your weekend?

Weekends (even long ones) are too short.

Hi everyone! I hope you enjoyed your weekend and congrats to those of you who got a 3-day weekend because of snow. 🙂 Even though we didn’t get too much snow, my work was closed and I loved being home for an extra day.

Saturday!

20 mile run. It.was.tough. This was our first 20 miler of our training and we have 3 more to go. C’mon warm weather! It was so great to get it done early (we started at 8 and it was 16 degrees) and I got to hold Jeanette’s 2 new baby goats when we finished! She also sent me home with some farm fresh eggs that taste amazing.

20140303-201815.jpg
Dinner was salad and baked vegetable lasagna.

20140303-201930.jpg

20140303-201958.jpg
Of course I needed dessert…Handel’s Oreo Hurricane for the win.

20140303-202102.jpg
Sunday!

We met our friends Nick and Kim for lunch and then we went to see their beautiful new home. For lunch, I ordered a turkey sandwich and a cup of cream of crab soup and it was delicious. I wish I took a picture of Chris’ sandwich because it had macaroni and cheese on it!!

20140303-202210.jpg

20140303-202221.jpg
This ice cream is the best stuff in the world. The Honey Graham flavor is AMAZING. I can’t even describe how good it is.

20140303-202723.jpg
Monday!

Thanks to a snow storm, I got to enjoy an extra day at home this weekend. One of the many reasons I love being home, is that I get to cook more. 🙂 Breakfast was a spinach and cheese omelette and an apple. I used two of my fresh from the farm eggs and added some liquid egg whites to get some more volume.

20140303-203207.jpg
I really enjoyed my lunch today…I even made double so that I could take it to work for lunch tomorrow. Turkey and ham with spinach on whole wheat potato bread with carrots and cucumbers on the side.

20140303-203403.jpg
Annabelle had some carrots too and she still had a tiny piece in her mouth after her bath…30 minutes later. Saving it for later I guess. 🙂

20140303-203550.jpg

20140303-203608.jpg
Surprise, surprise, I needed something sweet after lunch. I ate a soft chocolate chunk cookie and washed it down with some Starbucks. Perfect combination.

20140303-203830.jpg
For dinner, my mom and I went to Panera Bread. The place was a ghost town…I guess nobody wanted to venture out in the single digit temps. I tried the shrimp couscous salad with broccoli cheddar soup on the side. The salad was very light and refreshing but it wasn’t very big. Good thing I stopped at TCBY on the way home.

20140303-204148.jpg

Time to watch The Following and eat fro yo! Enjoy the rest of your night!

PS I haven’t exercised since Saturday (except for chasing around an on-the-move 1 year old) and I can’t wait to get moving tomorrow!

Weekend Recap…lots of pictures.

Hi everyone! I had a busy, but fun, 3 day weekend and I’m sad that it’s over. I hope you had a great weekend too. 🙂

Friday!

7 mile run. 2 miles at an 8:30ish pace and ten 45 second pick ups to break up the run. The first pick up was at speed 8.0 and the last pick up was at 9.6.

8 miles on the treadmill (2 miles warmup at 8:30, 6 miles at an 8:00 pace) I was on a treadmill that only allowed 30 minutes at a time, so I had to restart 3 times. And yes, I had to get in that last .1 mile. 🙂
