A $44 bra and we have a roller!

I have yet to witness this, but Annabelle can now roll from her back to her stomach! Chris said that he put her down on her back on her play mat and then she was on her stomach on the carpet! She is growing up way too fast…


Since Chris spends all day with her, he considers himself a #1 Dad. Yes, he bought this for himself.


Yesterday’s workouts:

1. 3.5 mile run and 10 minutes on the elliptical: I ran at lunch time and it was very warm and humid. I only did a few miles to see how everything was feeling. I have a half on Saturday and I’m praying that nothing major starts hurting. This has happened way too often :-(.

2. Bikram yoga class: It was an awesome sweaty class but I forgot to bring anything to wear. Skipping class was not an option, so I found a pair of capris in my car and bought a bra from the studio. Yup, $44 later and I was the proud owner of a new one-shoulder blue yoga top. I usually wear my running sports bras so this one (which is made for yoga and would not be good for high impact activities) made me feel very stylish and professional.

It looks really similar to this one.


Molly is feeling a little left out since AB gets pictures posted everyday. Here you go Molly…She was a sleepy pup after playing outside in the heat.

Orioles home opener and a race tomorrow!

Let’s Go O’s!


Baseball season means it’s getting warm and it’s almost summer time!  There’s nothing better than a lazy Sunday afternoon watching the O’s games with family…only after getting in a good workout/run before hand :).

Today’s workout:

I took an afternoon Bikram class and it felt great.  I really like when the instructor provides personal feedback and let’s me know when a posture looks great or needs some work.  The teacher today is great at that and I left class feeling great about my class.

I am sticking with just yoga today because tomorrow morning I will be running this race.  It raises money for a good cause and it will be a nice scenic run.  I am running with my friend Frank and we are taking it easy…in his words “old man pace.”  I’m excited to see how my Brooks Pure Flows do with the 13.1 and my feet…I tend to get blisters no matter what :(.  I’m a bit nervous because I haven’t done many long runs since having Annabelle, so wish me luck!  I’ll have a race review up tomorrow evening!

A good rabbit and triangle pose…and it’s almost party time!!

I went to yoga first thing this morning.  There is nothing like getting drenched in sweat to start the day.  I had a pretty good class and I even got compliments on my triangle and rabbit pose.  Let me tell you, triangle is towards the end of the standing series and it is very challenging.  I was happy to get a “Nice Linda” from the instructor.  She even said that my rabbit was a “very nice posture.”

Chris was on baby duty while I was gone and you can tell that he dressed Annabelle this morning.  Go Orioles! 🙂  And yes, those are baby Under Armour pants.  Thanks Amber!

Lunch was a bagel sandwich and vanilla yogurt.  I felt like my yogurt needed a little crunch, so I added a crushed up white fudge covered oreo…best idea ever.

The rest of the day was spent getting ready for the wedding party tomorrow!

We grabbed a quick dinner at Panera Bread and I tried the Power Spinach salad along with broccoli cheddar soup.  Soup is still necessary since it is still super cold and not spring-like at all.


My brother and his family have been in the car all day long and they are almost here!  I hope they enjoy the next week of sleeping on an air mattress and a couch! 🙂

AB is super excited that they are coming.

How to prepare for your first Bikram Yoga class

So, are you ready to try Bikram yoga?  Yay, you will love it…or love to hate it but still want to go all of the time :).  I hope you find this helpful!

First things first, find a studio near you.  If you want to try Bikram yoga, make sure that you go to a studio that uses the name Bikram Yoga and not just “Hot Yoga”.  In order to be a Bikram instructor, you have to attend a lengthy and rigorous teacher training, so these instructors really know their stuff.  Once you find a studio, check out the website.  Most studios have specials for first time students and you can try it out for a discounted price.  You will also most likely find that you can sign up for class online and reserve your spot before arriving at the studio.  This saves time and ensures that you have a spot in class.  Make sure to drink lots of water the day BEFORE and the day of your first class…but be careful not to chug water 10 minutes before hand because this will end badly :).

What to bring:

A yoga mat – If you don’t have one, don’t sweat it.  LOL…sweat it.  Studios rent mats for a small fee so if you don’t have one, you can always rent one at first and then purchase one if you are going to stick with it.


A towel to place over your mat – You need to put a towel on top of your mat because you will sweat A LOT and you will slip slide all over the place without a towel.  I have a towel that is the shape and size of my mat, but any towel will do.


Clothing – I usually wear a sports bra and tight-fitting shorts…it is super hot in there and I find it easier to wear as little as possible :).  If you are more comfortable covering up more, that is perfectly ok.  I would go with a tank top and capris or tank top and shorts…I have never practiced in long pants or long sleeves, but I can’t imagine it is comfortable.


Water bottle – I know that some studios do not allow water inside, but I think that most do.  Since it is so warm in the room, it is best to fill your water bottle with mostly ice so that it stays cold throughout class.  Try and listen to the instuctors…you will be asked to not drink for the first 3 postures, but then you can drink whenever you would like after that.


Extra towel – Since you just spent 90 minutes sweating the toxins out of your body, it is best to rinse off in the shower afterwards.  Not to mention, you will feel much better afterwards.


Yoga bag and mini products – Make sure to have a bag that is big enough to fit all of your towels and other belongings.  Remember:  Your towels will be very wet and very heavy after class so I usually bring a plastic bag to put them in.  I also keep mini products in my bag…conditioner, body spray, face wash, deodorant, and a comb.  Be mindful that everyone else will also want to rinse off, so do not use this time as your main shower for the day 🙂

When you arrive for class:

  • Sign in/pay
  • Take off your shoes!  No shoes are worn in the studio or the locker room areas.
  • Place your mat.  Make sure that you can see yourself in the mirror, but make sure to not block someone else’s view.
  • Use the restroom, secure your hair, blow your nose (lots of breathing in and out of your nose)
  • Enter the studio quietly…the studio is supposed to be silent but people usually whisper to one another 🙂

During class:

  • Breathe in and out of your nose!  This will help to control your breathing and keep you calm.  If you start to feel light-headed or nauseous, don’t panic!  Simply kneel down on your mat and sit back on your ankles and try to breathe easy in and out of your nose.  Also, try to keep your focus on yourself in the mirror.  Once your breathing is steady, you should start to feel better.
  • Listen to the instructor
  • Take it easy and get used to the heat
  • Don’t get frustrated
  • Do your best!

You will most likely feel pretty tired, weak, and dehydrated after your first class…but don’t quit!  It gets easier with each class you take and yoga is cumulative so you need to keep going to get the full benefits.

Getting stuff settled

I’m going to go ahead and apologize now…I have had a pretty boring day.

Annabelle woke up to eat around 4 am this morning.  I was going to just stay up and head to the 6 am Bikram class but by the time she was changed, fed, and happy, I would have had to rush to get there on time.  I then planned on going to the 9:30 class and the same thing happened.  I guess it just wasn’t in the cards today, but I got to spend more time with this little angel.


While I spent the day wishing I had gone to yoga (I’m kinda in a funk today), I did a lot of chores to get ready for our house guests that arrive on Friday.  My brother and his family are leaving their warm weather and coming north to stay with us for a week…and they finally get to meet Annabelle :).  I’m so excited!  Before I started my “chores”, I had a bagel with crunchy peanut butter.


The main thing I wanted to get done was organizing the pantry.  There was absolutely no order to it and I was wasting space and couldn’t find anything.

Once I finished a few other things, I was hungry for lunch.  I made us turkey burgers and we had pita chips and “less guilt” guacamole on the side.  I love avocados.


Hopefully we will get some Insanity in tonight…and maybe a chilly run outside.

I Love Sweat…and food!

My friend Andrea and I started the morning off sweaty in a Bikram Yoga class.


This was the first class I’ve attended in about 2 years (I used to go everyday and my longest streak was 43 days in a row), so I was pretty nervous about it.  For those of you that have never taken a Bikram Yoga class before, the yoga consists of 26 postures repeated twice in a room that’s about 105 degrees…and the class is an hour and half long.  It is super challenging but it feels amazing once it’s over.  When I was practicing daily, I did not experience any running injuries at all…and this is saying a lot since I get injured far too often.  I am going to try and go as much as possible now because it really did help me to be more flexible and a better runner…and it’s a great stress reliever.

When I got home, I cooked us breakfast.  I was absolutely starving…and dehydrated…after that workout.  We had scrambled eggs, english muffins, and Chobani key lime flips.

After breakfast, Chris and I did some Insanity and I am now exhausted and absolutely starving again.

My mom came over to spend time with me hold Annabelle while she sleeps, so I’m sure we will be getting dinner soon.

Last night’s dinner was awesome as usual…some great local barbecue.  Chris had a nice diet meal of ribs, cornbread, mac and cheese, and cole slaw :).  I had pulled turkey with mac and cheese and cole slaw.

I’m thinking about redecorating my house with this pig/rooster theme they have going on.
