Body pump and a gross looking dinner.

Well, the work week is almost half way over. Right? They are calling for snow in my area tomorrow, so I’m doing my snow dance and wearing my pjs inside out.

Once lunch time rolled around today, I went down to my work gym and took a body pump class. I try to run 3-4 days a week and cross/weight train 2-3 days a week. Today’s class was Release 98 (each new release has different music and different choreography) and it was INTENSE! My legs and arms were shaking, my elbows were sweating, and my heart rate was climbing.

I don’t know what it is about strength training, but it makes me so hungry all day long. I was absolutely starving when I got home, so I went with quick and simple for dinner. I had vegetable and barley soup on top of mashed sweet potato and it was amazing. Man, this looks nasty.

(Don’t worry, I won’t quit my job to be a food photographer.)

I’m super tired tonight, so I’ve been on the couch since Annabelle went to bed around 8. I’m enjoying one of my guilty pleasures…Dance Moms. Ok, I might be enjoying two guilty pleasures…

What dessert did I eat tonight?

A. Brownie
B. Cookie
C. Ice cream
D. All of the above 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving and my mom’s first 5k!!!

Hi everyone! I hope that you had a great Thanksgiving (if you celebrate :-)) with family and friends and I hope you ate lots of great good! We had a super fun time over here with my family.

We had a mini snow storm on Wednesday, so I decided to stay home from work and use my extra time to prep for Thanksgiving. This was my first year actually cooking, so it was nice to get a head start.

I made sweet potato casserole, a chocolate mousse trifle, cookie bars, and dressing. It was so nice to have all of this done prior to Thursday.

A white Thanksgiving Eve.

My parents flew in on Wednesday evening and I was SO HAPPY to see them. By the time we got home and got Annabelle settled down, it was after 1 am and we were exhausted.

We didn’t let sleep deprivation and freezing temps keep us from the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. My mom and I woke up and headed down the road to run a chilly 5k. The original plan was for me to run it and then back track to find my mom (who would be walking) once I finished. Well, she sure surprised me! I finished in about 24 minutes and headed back out to find her. It didn’t take long before I found her. She had decided to run instead of walk and she was already in her third mile! Since she had planned on walking, she was wearing a big winter hat and a long down coat AND carrying our packets! Even with all of that weighing her down, she ran her first 5k and finished in about 41 minutes. I am beyond proud. 🙂

After a stop for Starbucks and donuts, we headed home to shower and get the turkey in the oven. The day was made extra special because my Aunt Janice and Uncle Gren came over for a visit and it was sooo nice to see them. 🙂

We finally ate around 5 pm and it turned out very well for my first attempt at cooking. The menu included:

-Turkey and gravy
-Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows
-Mashed potatoes
-Cranberry Sauce

After letting our dinner settle, we dug into dessert (my favorite part of most meals)!

-Pumpkin Pie
-Chocolate Mousse Trifle (French vanilla cake layered with a cool whip and pudding mixture and topped with crushed Oreos…and repeat)
-Cookie bars

I made enough food for an army, so I’ve been eating leftovers everyday. I think I’ve had enough now.

I’m sad that I didn’t take a full family photo, but I did get a few good ones.

AB just couldn’t hang. 🙂 (Don’t worry, she was not really drinking beer or wine)

Grandses, Annabelle, and Me ❤

It was a great day and I’m now looking forward to a whole lot of Christmas fun.

Speed work…it hurts so good.

Day 2 of no dessert is almost over! I am currently having this as dessert and it’s pretty tasty.

Dinner was another simple meal (that’s all I can handle with a 1 1/2 year old running around) of chicken and roasted veggies. I really love roasting asparagus…it just makes it tastes really good.

After dinner we spent some time outside with Molly and then I spent some quality time with my foam roller and Dance Moms once AB went to bed.
Speed work…it’s so TOUGH but it feels so great once it’s finished. Since I’m taking another shot at a BQ in September (remember that time I missed it by 7 seconds…yea…), I’m back into marathon training mode and I have a lot of work to do.

Today’s workout:

1 mile warmup at a 9:13 pace

3 miles at a 6:51 pace with a 400m rest interval in between

.5 mile cool down at a 9:13 pace

It was a quick workout and I was able to make it back to my training class with time to spare. 🙂 PS my legs are feeling this workout right now and my new BFF is my foam roller.

Do you like asparagus?

What are you training for right now?

Do you own a foam roller or a stick? Do you use it everyday?

Santa and Date Night

Yesterday was a good day! I managed to fit in a 10 mile run at lunch with my friend Serge and it felt great.

Added bonus…it was warm enough to wear shorts!!!

My new hairstyle…

After work, Annabelle met the big guy for the first time! I’ll post some pics later (they are still in my car and I’m too lazy to go get them). 🙂

My parents were super awesome (as usual) and they took AB for the night. Chris and I hadn’t had a date night for quite sometime, so it was great to have some alone time. We had an awesome dinner…

Oyster Po Boy

Brussels Sprouts

Salad with grilled seafood

And the main event…ice cream trio and warm chocolate chip pistachio cookies.

Next, we went to see American Hustle. The movie started at 10:40 and was over 2 hours long, but I’m happy to report we both stayed awake the whole time. 🙂 Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper, yes please!

I hope you have a great Saturday! Annabelle started her day off right…weight training.

Are you attending any Christmas parties this year? Yes! I have two this weekend!

Try something different.

Yesterday’s breakfast is one that I would normally have before a longer run. You just can’t go wrong with a bagel, almond butter, and a banana…and coffee.

Annabelle’s breakfast…Brooks Pure Flow 2s insoles. She loves these shoes as much as I do.

So, I ate a pre-run type breakfast and it was great weather for a run, but I listened to my body and decided to take a running rest day to try something different. What did I do instead? Spin class! It has been a long time since I took one and I really liked the music and the energy of the class. My legs were like jello at the end and I was a sweaty hot mess. Lucky for you all, I didn’t take any pictures.

After class I refueled with a salad (lettuce, orange peppers, onions, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, figs, and pecans), Chobani blueberry yogurt, and some yogurt covered raisins.

After work, I tried something different and I actually cooked dinner! We had BBQ grilled chicken, corn, and broccoli salad. The smoke detector usually goes off when I use my grill pan, but not last night. 🙂

I kept with the theme and I tried something different for dessert. I had a pumpkin glazed doughnut AND ice cream with chocolate syrup. It was a very good decision.

Tell me, what will you try different today?!?!

My weekend in pictures!

Friday night dinner…the salad doesn’t look all that great, but it has spinach, grapes, walnuts, garbanzo beans, and Gorgonzola with a Zinfandel vinaigrette dressing and it is delicious.

Ice cream and baseball.

AB close up 🙂

First run in the jogging stroller! She slept the whole time 🙂

Post run breakfast…egg whites and cheese on a cheddar herb bagel.

Pool time with Matt and Kirstyn…and frozen margaritas.

Matt spent the day working=no fun.

Happy 39th Anniversary to my parents! Best parents in the world!

I took them to Bluestone for dinner.

AB loving to eat her new shoes. PS I love Target.

5k PR yesterday evening and 3rd place in my age group! Recap coming soon!

I hope you had a great weekend!

A big mileage week and dinner with old (and wonderful) friends.

I ran 4 days in a row this week…Monday-Thursday.

Monday 6.75
Tuesday 5.6
Wednesday 6.75
Thursday 6.3

Saturday 12 (well, that’s the plan at least)

This will give me a total of 37.4 miles for the week. I have not run this much or this often since before I was pregnant and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can continue to do this injury free.

Yup, that’s for all of you Twilight fans out there. I’m still sad that it’s all over.

Last night, Annabelle and I met two friends out for dinner. I met Heidi and Jess many years ago and we twirled baton together for years.

Old school picture taken at the national competition at Notre Dame…I’m thinking this was around 1997 or 1998?

Kellie and Jess then…

Kellie and Jess now :-). (Kellie wasn’t there last night, but here she is at her bridal shower a few weeks ago.)

Heidi then…

Heidi now…

We had a great time and AB enjoyed meeting them!

Do you still keep in contact with friends from your childhood?
What are your weekend plans?
