Race weekend, a great snack, and bath time.

I’m running the Baltimore 10 Miler this Saturday and to be honest, I’m a little nervous.  I haven’t done a lot of running since my marathon back in May and my knee is still being bothersome.  The course is a bit challenging (read hilly!) and the weather has turned hot and humid…I have not adapted to the humidity yet this year.  However, the race was a blast last year and I’m running with a bunch of friends and I am just going to hope for the best.  🙂

I decided it would be a great idea to take a new class during my lunch break today.  What class did I take?  Kick It.  This class was a high intensity kick-boxing class and I left nice and sweaty.  I have a feeling I’m going to wake up pretty sore tomorrow…

Once I got back to my desk, I couldn’t wait to eat my lunch.  I had leftover grilled chicken (cooked on a charcoal grill=so good) and pasta salad (from a box=so good).  I also chopped up the Mini Babybel cheese and mixed it in.

A few hours later, I was starving and reached for this Kashi bar.  For someone with a ginormous sweet tooth, this really hits the spot.  Best of all, it’s healthy and tastes great!

After a long day at work and a long commute home, I didn’t have much energy to cook dinner.  The solution…Eat Fresh!  Yup, Subway for the win.  Just in case you were wondering, I had turkey and ham on wheat with spinach, tomatoes, and onions.

Annabelle didn’t really seem like she needed a bath tonight, but when her normal bath time rolled around she kept pointing to the stairs and crying.  I finally understood what she wanted and she started giggling as soon as we reached the stairs.  I think the real reason she likes to take a bath is so that she can run around nude afterwards.  😉

She definitely keeps us on our toes, but I love her to the moon and back.

Charcoal or gas grill?

What does your perfect running weather look like?

How do you get a toddler to properly brush her teeth?

Weird weather and speed work on the mill.

My day started with a 2 hour and 15 minute commute. It’s a good thing I love my Subaru.

I was starving by the time I got to work and I was in need of coffee in a bad way. This flavor Clif Bar is amazing.

It was snowing on my drive into work, but it got really crazy around 10:30 am.

This was the view at 11:00 am. Crazy weather, but at least the sun is shining!

Since running outside hasn’t been the easiest with the snow covered sidewalks and streets, I decided to do my track workout on the (tread)mill today.

2 mile warmup at a 9:13 pace

3 miles at 6:53 pace with a 1 minute rest interval in between each mile

1.5 mile cool down at an 8:30 pace

6.5 miles total

I wore my new Pro Compression socks…yes, you can never have too many pairs of these.

I was very pleased at how “easy” this pace felt. When I say “easy” it just means that I wasn’t out of breath and I felt somewhat comfortable. 🙂

Recovery food = leftover pasta and chicken meatballs. It was even better than last night but it still photographs terribly.

Annabelle went from riding her zebra…

…to taking 8 unassisted steps today! I can’t wait to see her in action later!

Leftovers? Love them or hate them?

Favorite Clif Bar flavor?

A short work day, a fast workout, and a delicious doughnut.

Because of yesterday’s snow storm, my work was on a 4 hour delay today. I loved sleeping in, eating breakfast at home, and playing with AB before heading to work.

Breakfast was Special K Red Berries with sliced bananas and Silk Vanilla Almond Milk.

Love this little face. 🙂

Lunch was dinner leftovers from last night and I have decided this is one of my new favorite meals.

My mom and I headed to the gym after work and I spent some quality time with the treadmill.

My legs felt fresh for the first 5 800s, but I was definitely feeling the last 3. This is the fastest I have ever run 800s, so I left the gym very happy…and very sweaty.

Next stop was for manicures! The place we went to is fast, affordable, and they give a short neck/shoulder massage at the end.

Yes, I have very short, tiny nails. No, I do not bite them but I am an OCD filer.

Final stop of the night was Chipotle. I couldn’t stop thinking about it while I was running and it made my tummy very happy.

The grand finale of the night… 🙂

Speed work…love or hate?

Doughnuts…breakfast or dessert?

Tired legs, french toast, and leftovers.

Come Sunday morning, my legs were shot. From body pump on Thursday, x-fit class on Friday and prepping for and hosting Annabelle’s birthday party on Saturday, my legs were very sore and tired. What’s the best therapy for tired legs? Go out for a long run!

Jeanette and I met for an 8 am “race” on Sunday morning. Our local running club hosts weekly Sunday runs and they map out a course and time everyone, but it’s not a big organized race. They are a fun group of people and it’s great to run somewhere new each week.

This is everyone before the race started. It was cold and windy and you can see how happy I looked. 🙂

The run was 6.5 miles through beautiful back country roads. The course was great until we got to a hill that went straight up…for about a quarter mile. I’m pretty sure I could have walked up it faster than I was running it. I managed to push through by using my friend Janae’s mantra, “I can do hard things.” I finished in 50:05, first place female! Jeanette finished a little bit later and was second place female. 🙂 Even though our legs were fatigued from the hilly course, we headed back out and ran it again. We took it slow this time, and ran between 8:30 to 9:00 miles. 13 miles before 10 am = awesome.

What’s even more awesome than a 13 mile run? A 13 mile run followed by French toast and bacon!

When AB finally napped, we all napped. I needed a nap in a bad way and she did too. Poor thing had a bad cold and a fever :-(. The rest of the night was spent eating leftovers (cream cheese chicken chili) and fro yo while watching the movie Argo. 🙂

How do you make it through really tough runs or workouts?

Did you see Argo? Did you like it?

Will this survive the night?

Amber left half of her chicken parmesan grinder (aka sub) in our fridge.  BTW, she said that is was very delicious.  Chris is on a diet, but I’m not convinced this will still be here in the morning… 😉

I plan to start tomorrow off with a run on the trail and I’m hoping it goes better than my last run.  The baby is sleeping, so good night and see you in the morning!

What do you think?

Will Chris eat the sub?

If he reads this tonight, I will go with no.  If he doesn’t read it, I would say it is highly possible.

No coat Sunday!

I started yesterday morning off with a 4 mile run.  Before I headed out, I ate a Peanut Honey Pretzel Luna bar.  This thing is delicious…a good combination of salty and sweet.

This run did not go well.  I’m sure I was tired from Saturday’s 8 mile run, but my right quad was really tight and as soon as I started running I had a sharp pain/ cramp on my right side.  This did not happen while running before or during pregnancy, so I really hope that it is just my body getting used to running again and that it won’t last long.  I had to walk it out a few times and then just run through it before it finally felt better, but not completely gone.  Don’t be fooled by this picutre…I am not a happy camper.  However, I am happy with my recent purchase of Oakley Women’s sunglasses.  They are super cute, but they are also very light and easy to run in…I can’t stand to run with the sun in my eyes.

After my horrible and I am never running again run, I decided to do Insanity’s Cardio Abs.  This is a workout that we missed the first week because it is on the same disk as another workout.  It was only about 16 minutes long but very challenging.

I finally ate lunch around 2:30…this time change really affected me for some reason.  I had the crockpot leftovers with green beans and a chobani yogurt.  I think I have eaten as much of that as I can…

011 012

I was finally able to go on a walk with AB and she didn’t have to be bundled up like Ralph’s little brother…if you don’t know what this means, please watch the 24 hours of “A Christmas Story” next Christmas.  She was so happy to have gone outside!

014 016

We tried out a new restaurant for dinner.  It was OK, but not anything special.  We each started with a cup of cream of crab soup and it was pretty tasty.  I ordered a strawberry chicken salad that had chicken, strawberries, cucumbers, and candied walnuts.  Chris ordered a steak and crabcake with salad and a baked potato.

025 027 026

We were both exhausted so as soon as Annabelle crashed, so did we.  I was hoping for a nice 4-5 hour sleep, but AB was awake after 2 :(.

What do you think?

Favorite Luna Bar flavor?

Lemon Zest is pretty good.

Did you have nice weather yesterday?  How did you enjoy it?

A run and a walk.
