A fridge full of candy and my toddler is OUT OF CONTROL.

Happy Friday! I don’t know about you guys, but I could really use a glass of wine and a pint of Ben and Jerry’s.

It’s a list kind of day…

1. I’m actually SUPER busy at work and I am not used to such things! Things should slow down once January is over…I hope.

2. Our refrigerator doesn’t have much in it, but we have enough Christmas candy to get us through the zombie apocalypse.

3. I ran with Jeanette yesterday! She had an accident and has been recovering for a month. It was so great to enjoy a (treadmill) run with her.

4. We discovered an indoor play place close to our house. We will be spending the entire winter here because Annabelle loved it and it tired her out.

5. Speaking of Annabelle…wow, this week has been a struggle. She will be 2 on Tuesday (I still can’t believe it.) and she is in a very difficult stage. I blame us for some things that we didn’t end before they started, but we def have a few rough weeks ahead as we try to change some behaviors. Parenting is hard, very rewarding, but hard.

She fell asleep leaning against the window yesterday afternoon. 🙂

Happy New Year! Bring back Christmas…I like it so much better than New Years. I’m like that guy in The Breakup who still answers the phone, “Happy Holidays!” even though Christmas was long gone.

So, I’ve been enjoying the healthy train since we got back from Florida and I didn’t even indulge on New Years Eve. (read: Chris got me dinner and Annabelle and I partied hard watching Sesame Street).

Healthy Eats

I had a lot of Subway for a few days and then I ate veggie burgers, sandwiches, fruit, and veggies at home. Tonight’s dinner = turkey and cheese panini on whole wheat bread with an apple.

Since it was 20 degrees and WINDY today, I hit the treadmill for a run.

20 minute warmup

10 x 1 minute fast (6:58 pace) followed by 1 minute recovery (8:20 pace)

10 minute cool down

6 miles total and guess what???? It felt good!!! Finally!

The Downs…

I’ve been pretty good with workouts and worked out everyday except for yesterday. Guess what I do instead of working out? I EAT! After dinner, I consumed:

– 2 donuts (one chocolate cake and one glazed)

– 2 Twix Santas (they were $ .49 and I couldn’t resist)

– 1 Milky Way Snowman (see Twix)

– 1 bowl of ice cream with chocolate syrup

Sad but true :-(. Needless to say, I woke up feeling pretty gross this morning. But I rallied with a healthy oatmeal breakfast and went to the gym at lunch and I feel much better.

I just started using My Fitness Pal again and since I had lots of extra calories today, I did just eat dessert. The struggle is real. If you want to friend me and see how much dessert I really eat, my name is LMelz. 🙂

The BEST way to start the day…

I woke up around 7:30 this morning and since everyone else was still sleeping, I got dressed and headed to my happy place.

After my run, I went to the grocery store (we needed everything but my main motivation was that I wanted to make pancakes) and Starbucks of course.

I was hungry for dinner by 4, but I snacked on a banana and pretzels (Trader Joe’s Honey Wheat Pretzels are AMAZING) dipped in almond butter to hold me over.

Dinner was also amazing. Yup, that’s a sweet potato topped with black beans (mixed with taco seasoning), cheese, avocado, and sour cream with mixed veggies on the side.

A bad run is still a run.

Happy Tuesday! I worked from home today and I headed to the local trail for a run during my lunch break. I love living just a few minutes from the NCR Trail. I haven’t been digging running lately (I guess I am feeling burnout from marathon training for so long), but I headed out today with hopes of having a good run. This run felt TOUGH and I didn’t have “fun”, but I am happy that I was finally able to get in some sub-8 miles. I feel so far from being at the fitness level I was for my last marathon… A bad (feeling) run is still a run.

2. I went to the dermatologist for my annual skin checkup (I'm very mole-y). Fun fact…Annabelle likes to point at all of my moles and say "mooooole". How sweet of her to point all of them out. My doctor looked at my face and said she could, "fix it." Here's to not having a middle school girl's skin anymore!

3. We had an earthquake drill at work today. It was called “The Great Shakeout.” Kelly and I had some fun with it and enjoyed the 3 minutes we got to spend under our desks. 🙂

4. I ate a lot of healthy food this week! Yesterday’s breakfast was a Thomas’ English muffin topped with Justin’s Maple Almond Butter and a banana…yes, I made it into a smiley face. For lunch, I had a veggie burger topped with Colby cheese served with a side of veggies.

5. I got a flu shot yesterday. While this isn’t really fun, at least I hopefully won’t get the flu. I often have a mild reaction to the shot and fall ill the next day. I may be feeling pretty bad by the time you all read this. I was attempting to take a picture of the bandaid on my arm, but it just wasn’t working out. However, I did get a semi decent picture of one of my other favorite Stitch Fix items. <—-referral link 🙂

6. I ran today! I’ve been in a bit of a running rut lately. I guess two back to back marathon training cycles with a 50k thrown in caused me to burn out. I still love to run, but it’s been nice to not have the pressure of training and meeting certain time goals. Today I enjoyed a nice 6.3 mile run with Jeanette and it felt great.

A weekend at the shore.

Hi everyone. I hope you had a great weekend and wonderful start to your week. I’ve missed you terribly, but I have a lot going on over here and I’m having a hard time finding the time and motivation to post. With that said, I really love documenting my life and posting a million pictures of running stuff and baby Annabelle. So please keep checking in. 🙂

On Friday evening, Annabelle and I headed to the beach with my cousin Carrie (Chris was working and headed down on Saturday morning). We stopped at a Cracker Barrel for dinner and right as we were finishing a couple sat at the table behind us. AB started crying and reaching towards the table and I couldn’t figure out why. But then, I noticed that the man sitting at the table was wearing an orange Oriole’s shirt. Chris wears an Oriole’s shirt almost everyday during the summer and poor Annabelle thought he was daddy. She ran up to him wanting him to pick her up and I just couldn’t help but laugh. He picked her up and she stopped crying immediately. I couldn’t pass up this photo opportunity…he was a really good sport about it. 🙂

Annabelle absolutely loved the ocean and she giggled as soon as we walked onto the beach. She is def a beach girl just like her Mommy, Grandses, and cousin. 🙂

We ate a lot of good food (crabcakes, pizza, ice cream sundaes), but I only managed to take a picture of my freshly made, still warm doughnut. I paired it with some strawberries to make it “healthy”.

I did manage to squeeze in two pretty decent runs around the park on Sunday and Monday morning. While my pace was pretty fast (for me), I felt like I was running a 5 minute mile. I feel like I have lost a lot of fitness since the marathon.

My knee is still not great, but it only hurts during part of my runs and doesn’t hurt when I stop running. I’ve become best friends with the foam roller to try and make it better.

Annabelle enjoyed some playground time while I ran. She is really liking the playground these days. 🙂
