Wednesday: Work, workout, what I ate

Good afternoon! Yesterday was another normal day in the neighborhood…a very rainy neighborhood.

My alarm went off at 5, I drove to work, and began work before 7 am.

Breakfast included oatmeal and a banana and my new obsession…hot tea!

My workout was an X-Fit class at my work gym and it was a killer. Lots of squats, high knees, burpees, push ups, and about 15 minutes of AB work.

Lunch was leftovers from Tuesday night’s dinner…chicken, peas, and sweet potato tots.

After a very rainy two hour commute home, I made a salad for dinner. Spinach was the base layer and I added peas, sweet potato tots, carrots, cheese, a veggie burger, and guacamole. I also snacked on some Wheat Thins. This flavor is amazing!

Annabelle and I snuggled/wrestled on the couch for a bit and watched Sesame Street before she went to bed. She is going into a little biting stage and her teeth are so sharp! Anybody else have a 21 month old who is doing this???

Once AB was down for the night, I enjoyed some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies that I bought at a bake sale today.

I also booked a flight to visit these guys in December! I can’t wait!!

Meal “planning” and a new favorite salad dressing.

Do you meal plan? I don’t really do much planning. I go to the grocery store and tend to buy enough food for a week and make whatever strikes my fancy each day. I usually stick with the same meals for a while and then move onto something new.

The most planning I do is packing breakfast, lunch, and snacks the night before work days. Depending on what I decide to bring, this task can take a long time…cutting fruit and veggies, making overnight oats or sandwiches, portioning out leftovers, etc. One of the many benefits of working from home a few days a week, is not having to make a days worth of meals the night before. It really does take a lot of stress off of my nightly routine.

A big salad with spinach, grapes, strawberries, cucumbers, avocado, and a veggie burger. I also discovered this awesome new salad dressing…salsa ranch made with yogurt! It tastes amazing.

Speed work…which I love and hate at the same time. Hate during and love afterwards 🙂

-1 mile warmup
-10 x 400m (1/4 mile) in 1:37 with 400m recovery in between sets

Pajamas…all day.

Yup, I stayed in my pjs all day today. Did I have a leisurely day of sitting on the couch and watching reality TV? Sadly, no. I was super productive and it feels good to get some much needed housework done.

The morning started with blueberry and banana pancakes followed by multiple loads of laundry, some clutter reorganization, and Annabelle’s first ponytail! She even waited a few minutes before she took it out. Girlfriend does not like anything in her hair. 😦

Lunch was a winner…spinach topped with strawberries, grapes, cucumbers, avocado, and a veggie burger (Dr. Praeger’s).

During Annabelle’s nap, I organized the laundry room and cleaned 2 out of our 3 bathrooms. Chris took a nap too, but he rallied and worked in the garden before AB woke up. 🙂

Dinner rolled around and I made marinated chicken, Mac and cheese, and roasted carrots/asparagus/onions. Annabelle worked on using a fork during dinner and actually used the fork to put some macaroni in her mouth. Unfortunately, she would take it right back out and didn’t eat much of it. Chris and I didn’t let it go to waste.

I finally showered and put on clean pjs after dinner and Annabelle worked on her reading and her photography skills. She took the picture of her plane and asked that I include it in my post. 🙂

Today was a “rest” day, so I am ready for a good ole sweaty speed workout tomorrow!

Expired snacks, I wanted to quit, and my new strategy.

So when I woke up yesterday, I felt terrible. My stomach was all messed up (maybe it was the Starbucks and Easter candy at 9 pm), and I just felt blah. I decided a nice healthy breakfast would fix everything, so I raided my stash at work and found this bar.

I’m glad I noticed the “best by date” of June 2013 before I ate it. Don’t worry, I did end up finding a non-expired Clif bar and did not go hungry. 🙂

Wednesday has been “track day” for a while now, so of course it was chilly and very windy for our workout. This workout was a killer and I wanted to quit so many times.

8 x 800m in 3:17 with a 1:30 RI (rest interval) between sets. We ended up running each 800m in about 3:14-3:15 and I really had to channel my inner Shalane and remember that Bart Yasso (Yasso 800s) is one of my BFFs. 🙂

Dinner was a chicken salad sandwich (2 separate sandwiches put together) and fruit with the best company around…AB and my parents. 🙂

Since I’m trying to cut back on my ice cream consumption, I used one of Annabelle’s bowls AND the ice cream was “light”. Even though the bowl doesn’t look that small in the picture, it’s much smaller than my usual mixing bowl.

A farewell run and the best afternoon snack.

This morning’s breakfast was hot oatmeal with strawberries. I haven’t had hot oatmeal in forever and it hit the spot.

For some reason, oatmeal does not hold me over as much as other things I eat for breakfast…strange, I know.

One of my very close running buddies is retiring and today was his last day. A few of us went on a leisurely 4.5 mile run to say goodbye and get one last run in. We will still see him often, but we will miss him during our lunch runs.

My lunch was a big salad that included mixed greens, spinach, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, chicken meatballs, baked croutons, and guacamole. I’ll be eating the exact same thing for lunch tomorrow and I’m totally ok with that.

I worked through the afternoon and was more than ready for a snack around 4:30. Man, was this a good one. Cookies + yogurt = genius. If you need an otherwise healthy snack made into a dessert, I’m your girl. 🙂

Happy Tuesday! The weather is finally changing and the sun is shining! I hope you are having nice weather too. 🙂

We had pretty nice weather yesterday as well, so we did our tempo run outside during lunch. Yes, it’s awesome that I can run on my lunch break. 🙂

The plan called for a 1 mile warmup followed by 5 miles @ a 7:38 pace. We pretty much just picked up the pace and ran on feel and ended up running faster than we needed to.

I was so ready for lunch when I got back to my desk. I enjoyed every last bite of this big salad and the secret ingredient…guacamole as salad dressing. I simply mixed it all together and the guacamole covered everything and it was amazing.

I love Mondays at home.

My work schedule allows for me to be off every other Monday and it is great. Even better is that we have been off because of snow the past two Mondays I was supposed to work. Win win situation. 🙂

I LOVE making breakfast at home, so the day started with stuffed French toast. I finally found The Laughing Cow’s Cinnamon Cream Cheese spread and it made for the perfect filling.

Since the road conditions were not great for running, I headed to the gym for this week’s tempo workout.

1 mile warmup at 9:13 pace
4 mile tempo at 7:35 pace
1 mile cool down at 8:34 pace

I’m not going to lie, this felt TOUGH. My legs were still pretty tired from my long run and it took me about a half of a mile to stop feeling like I couldn’t keep up with the belt on the treadmill.

I finished the workout with a 3 minute plank and a few side planks. Pro compression socks and capris make for the perfect outfit. 🙂

I REALLY wanted some Cadbury Mini Eggs for dessert, but I controlled myself and had a banana cream yogurt with chocolate goldfish mixed in instead.

The rest of the day was spent doing house stuff and playing with this little stinker. 🙂

My mom came up to hang out with us once Chris went to work. Annabelle LOVES her grandparents. I made grilled chicken salads for dinner and it felt good to eat lots of veggies before I consumed a boat load of ice cream.

Fun Things Friday!

1. I started the day with my new favorite Starbucks drink. A grande soy vanilla macchiato. 🙂

2. I channeled my inner Britney Spears and ran 7.25 miles on the treadmill. To fight boredom, I warmed up for 3 miles and then began 1 minute pick-ups with 2 minutes in between each one. My pick-up pace was a 7:03 pace and my time in between was an 8:00 pace.

3. I slept in a little and got into work late today. Since I didn’t get to work until after 10, I took a late lunch (#runch) and my friends Kelly and Marissa were nice enough to get my lunch from the cafe (it would have closed before I got there). 🙂

4. I had an amazing afternoon snack today. Dannon Banana Cream Greek yogurt with fudge brownie goldfish and white chocolate chips.

5. It’s date night! Annabelle is sleeping over at Grandses and Poppies house so I can check my long run (18 miles) off the list tomorrow morning.

Tell me something fun about your Friday!

Egg fail, a tempo run, and heaven in a cup.

Chris wasn’t feeling well when he woke up yesterday. I made us breakfast to try and make him feel better, but it didn’t help much. We had eggs and toast…I broke the yolks when trying to make over easy eggs. I’m such a failure.

Annabelle and I decided to let Chris relax and sleep, so we went down to my parent’s house for the night. My dad was nice enough to watch AB while my mom and I hit the gym. She ellipticalled her heart out and I struggled through a tempo run.

Warmup for 2 miles at an 8:30 pace
5 miles at a 7:30 pace
Cool down for 1 mile at an 8:30 pace

“Fun” Things Friday

I’m not sure all of these things are fun, but they are things and it’s Friday. 🙂

1. Annabelle’s 1st birthday party is tomorrow! This was taken in the morning right after she got up. I brought her into my bed to hangout (don’t worry we were all fully awake) and she laid her head right next to mine on the pillow. Yes, I cropped my face out.

2. Just when I needed a good song to keep me awake during my 1 1/2 hour commute last night, Mariah Carey’s “Always be my baby” saved the day.

3. The salad bar at work is pretty good for cafeteria work food. They had roasted vegetables yesterday and they were delicious.

4. New favorite snack…a Zone Perfect Simple bar, oatmeal chocolate chip flavor, warmed up in the microwave. After about 20 seconds, this bar smelled and tasted like a warm chocolate chip cookie. 🙂

7. I have a long run planned for today, but the weather is pretty icy/rainy. If it doesn’t happen today, it will happen Sunday.

8. I took Body Pump yesterday and I’m not as sore as I was after Tuesday’s class. I’m not sure if that means my body is adjusting or I just didn’t work hard enough. 😉
